The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, stated during the Wednesday Presidential Task Force Briefing in Abuja that a breakdown of the confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria indicated that 70 percent are male and 30 percent female.
Ehanire also hinted that the age range of these COVID-19 victims is mostly between 30 and 60 years.
Clarifying this stat does not indicate the vulnerability of a gender to the coronavirus case, the minister said; “I must be quick to stress that both men and women of all ages can be infected”.
Ehanire also noted that the recorded fatalities have “underlying serious ailment which no doubt aggravated their conditions”.
Contrary to the minister’s report that Nigeria now has 139 confirmed cases of the COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that the nation now has 151 confirmed cases of the virus.
The NCDC coronavirus cases breakdown attributed; Lagos- 82; FCT- 28; Osun- 14; Oyo- 8; Ogun- 4; Edo- 4; Kaduna- 3; Enugu- 2; Bauchi- 2; Ekiti- 2; Rivers-1; and Benue- 1.
The Italian (index case in Nigeria) has since been discharged by the Lagos State Government after treatment and tests that indicated he is free of the virus.
